Unfortunately, Obama has backed down on Iraq and looks to build upon what Bush did in Afghanistan.
You don't think the EFCA will pass on its own "merits"? Instead, how about relaxing "prevailing wage" laws along with any infrastructure bill or "recovery" package?
What stream of logic takes one to seating both senators for IL and MN right now? I can see one or the other, but not both. I'd seat Burris, but under those criteria, could not seat Franken.
Barack Obama isn't in any "position" to "back down" on anything any more than you are.
Nothing worth while gets passed on its own "merits".
Prevailing wage laws, like all good and just laws, came about with struggle, and the EFCA will be no different.
Burris was properly appointed.
Franken won his election.
Simple as that.
You're right that I overstated on Obama. He's only backed (way) down in his rhetoric so far-- a great disappointment to those of us who oppose our on-going efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Presumably the actions will follow, but maybe not. Do you think he'll change course on this (again)? Interesting...
Burris was properly appointed (via rule of law); Franken has not yet won his seat (given what rule of law allows Coleman).
